Not legal, medical or financial advice. This is a free, independent guide built from each hospital's own published policy. Policies change. The hospital's current policy and its decision on your application are what count. Always check the linked source.
About
Method
Every hospital row comes from the hospital's own financial assistance policy, application or plain-language summary, or from an official source such as a state health department, a state statute, or IRS data shown on ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer. Each row links its sources and shows the date we last checked it. We do not copy figures from third-party sites. When sources disagree, we say so. "Not confirmed" means we could not confirm it, not that the answer is no.
How often we recheck
Policies change, often once a year. We plan to recheck every hospital at least quarterly, and sooner when a hospital posts a new policy or someone sends a correction.
How to read "free care up to X% FPL"
FPL is the federal poverty guideline, set each year by HHS for your household size. "Free care up to 200% FPL" means a household whose yearly income is at or below twice its guideline can have its bill fully forgiven, if it applies and is approved. For 2026 that is $31,920 for 1 person or $66,000 for a household of 4. Discount limits work the same way. Hospitals may count income differently, may also look at assets, and usually require you to apply. See the full 2026 table.
